This Saturday, March 10, join Heather Sweet, MLA for Edmonton-Manning at her third annual job fair. The North Edmonton Job Fair for Albertans looking for job opportunities, further training or additional employment resources. All residents of north Edmonton are welcome to attend. There will be about 50 employers from several sectors of our economy. There will also be free presentations by Alberta business leaders.

This fair allows people to learn about employment opportunities, types of jobs, qualifications required and application processes. Dozens of training and employment upgrading agencies are ready to help job seekers achieve their goals.

“Since I was elected as an NDP MLA for Edmonton-Manning in 2015,” says Ms Sweet, “our government has been working hard to make life better for Albertans.”

After the economic downturn, many people worried that they wouldn’t be able to find work in their field. This event aims to show them that many skills are transferable. It encourages them to participate in employment upgrading or try something new. Several presenters will be speaking about making a change from one sector to another, such as oil and gas to forestry or renewable energy.

Alberta is now leading the country in economic growth. Manufacturing is up. Retail sales are up. Wholesale trade is up. Wages are up. Nearly every indicator that should be up, is up. Alberta’s economy is recovering, and there are hundreds of jobs available at this year’s event.

“Hosting this annual job fair is just one of the many ways I can make sure this recovery reaches all Albertans,” says Sweet.

In the past, this event usually took place on a weekday, and there was no child-minding service available. This year’s event will be more accessible: we’re hosting it on a Saturday morning, and there will be child minding available. Instead of several presentations happening in different rooms at the same time, we’ve ensured that presentations happen one after the other.

The job fair is really about residents. This new format ensures participants can get as much information as possible from such employers as
